Yokai of Despair | 10.13 Update Notes

New Japanese God

Bake Kujira

The Yokai of Despair
Passive: Curse of the Ghost Whale
  • Enemies that apply hard Crowd Control to Bake Kujira are Cursed. If an enemy is already Cursed, the duration is refreshed and the Curse increases in strength. Bake Kujira converts Protections from Items and Abilities into Basic Attack damage and converts Attack Speed into reduced Basic Attack movement penalty. Attack Speed and Item Passives do not benefit his Basic Attacks.
    • Protections Conversion: 30%
    • Attack Speed Conversion: 1% reduced Movement Penalty per 1% Attack Speed
    • Cooldown on Curse Application: 10s
Rough Waters
  • Bake Kujira imbues himself with cursed energy. When activated, Bake Kujira gains increased Basic Attack range and reduced Movement Penalty when Basic Attacking. He also gains a stack of Protections for each enemy hit with his Basic Attacks.
    • Basic Attack Radius: 20
    • Protections per stack: 2/3/4/5/6
    • Max Stacks: 6/7/8/9/10
    • Movement Penalty Reduction: 50%
    • Duration: 5s
    • Cost: 60/65/70/75/80
    • Cooldown: 12s
Sonic Wave
  • Bake Kujira sends out a wave of cursed energy. Enemies hit are slowed, damaged, and Cursed. Enemies that are Cursed deal reduced damage for 6s. If a Cursed enemy is hit by this ability, the slow is doubled and their Curse becomes amplified. Bake Kujira’s Basic Attacks reduce this ability’s Cooldown by 1s when hitting an enemy god and 0.1s when hitting an enemy minion.
    • Damage: 80/125/170/215/260 (+30% of your Magical Power)
    • Curse Damage Reduction: 6/7/8/9/10%
    • Amplified Curse Damage Reduction: 12/14/16/18/20%
    • Slow: 15% for 2s
    • Cost: 40/45/50/55/60
    • Cooldown: 10s
Twisting Dive
  • Bake Kujira gathers power then dashes straight ahead, damaging enemies around him. Enemies hit by the dash take additional damage and are stunned and pushed to Bake Kujira’s ending location. Bake Kujira is immune to Knockback while using this ability.
    • Splash Damage: 55/85/115/145/175 (+20% of your Magical Power)
    • Dash Damage: 80/120/160/200/240 (+30% of your Magical Power)
    • Stun: 0.5/0.75/1.0/1.25/1.5s
    • Cost: 50/55/60/65/70
    • Cooldown: 14s
Yokai’s Lament
  • Bake Kujira begins to sing for the next 5s, gaining bonus Basic Attack Damage, increasing his Basic Attack range to 20, and distorting a large area around himself with the sound waves. Enemies between 20 and 50 units away gain stacks of time dilation every 0.25s, causing all of their actions to happen more slowly. Leaving the time dilation area will cause the stacks of time dilation to decay over time. Enemies within 20 units are not time dilated, but instead take increased damage.
    • Time Dilation debuff: 10% slower per stack
    • Max Stacks: 4
    • Bonus Basic Attack Damage: 20/30/40/50/60%
    • Nearby Enemy Damage Increase: 5/7.5/10/12.5/15%
    • Cost: 100
    • Cooldown: 110/105/100/95/90s

Game Modes
Duel
Duel has been dominated by the same top gods for the majority of its existence. It’s time to spice things up because 32 of the most played and victorious Gods are now auto-banned from the mode. Players will still be able to ban 12 Gods as per usual, so we’re excited to see what kind of new meta forms now that the top dogs are out of the picture. This change is intentionally designed to be extreme because it will be temporary, as we are hoping Duelists across the battleground are interested in more curated meta shifts in the coming patches. We also are keeping a close eye on the various new mechanics we’ve introduced throughout the year for future adjustments. We’re looking forward to your feedback!

Nerfs
Typically we don’t want to drastically change the meta in the last major update before the SMITE World Championship. But with the current community and pro sentiment about Mages dominating the Solo lane, we decided to shake things up more in this update than we have historically. We have heard the feedback of adjusting class bonuses, but felt that was too risky to do with so little time for pros to prepare for the World Championships. Because this update is more meta shaking than we typically want to do at this time of year, some roles aren’t getting significant item changes in this update. We hope that the meta will at least slightly shift with these numerous changes, which should theoretically cause some potential shifts in the meta builds for roles like Hunters. Typhon’s Fang
  • Decreased Magical Power from 65 to 60
  • Reduced Magical Power to Magical Lifesteal conversion rate from 2x to 1.5x
Vampiric Shroud
  • Decreased Magical Power from 30 to 25
  • Decreased Magical Lifesteal from 6% to 4%
  • Decreased Health restore from 3 to 2
  • Decreased Mana restore from 8 to 6
Blood-Soaked Shroud
  • Reduced Magical Power from 80 to 70
  • Reduced Health and Mana restore on PSV from 1.2% Health and 1.5% Mana to 1% of both

  • Decreased Magical Power from 35 to 30
Pythagorem’s Piece
  • Decreased Magical Lifesteal from 8% to 6%

  • Decreased Physical Protections from 55 to 50
  • Decreased MP5 from 20 to 15
Buffs
We have heard the feedback on Hybrid itemization changes and lack of good clear items for Warriors being contributing factors to Mages taking over their intended role. These are things we are looking to address in Year 11, but could not safely do right before the World Championship. We are giving some of the early Warrior items some small buffs, as we also don’t want to create a Warrior/Tank jungle meta, as well as giving some HP5 to some items that could become good options for them. Berserker’s Shield
  • Decreased Cost from 2300 to 2250
  • Increased Health from 100 to 150
Gladiator’s Shield
  • Decreased Cost from 2350 to 2300
  • Increased Health from 150 to 200
Phalanx
  • Decreased Cost from 2200 to 2150
  • Increased Health from 150 to 200
Pestilence
  • Decreased Cost from 2400 to 2300
  • Added 15 HP5
Archdruid’s Fury
  • Increased Physical Protection from 30 to 35
  • Increased Magical Protection from 30 to 35
Dawnbringer
  • Added 15 HP5
Warrior’s Axe
  • Increased Physical Power from 15 to 20
Gods
Nerfs
Ah Puch Ah Puch has been one of the best performing Mages in Solo, mostly due to his ability to stay healthy thanks to Hollow Ground and have constant access to poke thanks to the Cooldown Reduction he gets when picking up a corpse. Hollow Ground
  • Decreased Heal from 5% of Max Health to 4%
  • Decreased the Cooldown Reduction on Undead Surge and Corpse Explosion when picking up a corpse from 2s to 1s
Athena General
  • Decreased HP5 per level from 0.9 to 0.8
Confound
  • Increased Cooldown from 18/17.5/17/16.5/16s to 18s
Defender of Olympus
  • Increased Cooldown from 110s to 120s
  • Damage Mitigation decreased from 30% to 20%
Chernobog We heavily nerfed Chernobog’s early lane clear in 10.12, but his pro presence remained. Since heavily nerfing the early game didn’t affect him, we are taking a different approach this time around. Living Nightmare
  • Increased Cooldown from 110s to 120s
  • Reduced Movement Speed from 20% to 15%
  • Decreased Damage Mitigation from 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% to 5/7.5/10/12.5/15%
Maman Brigitte Maman Brigitte certainly made a splash in her SPL debut. Madame’s Mark is meant to be an enabler for Soul Spikes, not a primary damage source itself. This nerf affects Madame’s Mark regardless of it being applied by Madame Fangs or Explosion of Souls. Madame Fangs
  • Decreased bonus mark damage scaling from 5% to 2.5%
  • Removed base damage from mark damage
Poseidon Poseidon quickly swam to the top of the Mages dominating Solo, but he has been quietly very good for the majority of Year 10. A large part of his strength at a high level is how hard he is to lock down thanks to Trident and his objective damage, so we are nerfing both of those aspects of his kit. Changing Tides
  • Decreased Bonus Ability Damage at Max Tide from 20% to 15%
Trident
  • Increased Cooldown from 16/15/14/13/12s to 15s at all ranks
  • Decreased Base Damage from 30/40/50/60/70 to 20/30/40/50/60
Raijin Raijin is the poster-god of the Mage Solo meta, so we wanted to make sure he didn’t go untouched. Percussive Storm
  • Decreased Base Damage from 35/50/65/80/95 to 30/45/60/75/90
Ratatoskr After climbing his way to the top of the jungle meta, we have to ask Ratatoskr to hop down a few branches. Acorn Blast
  • Decreased Damage from 70/95/120/145/170 (+60% of your Physical Power) to 70/90/110/130/150 (+55% of your Physical Power)
Buffs
Warriors are the class receiving the most buffs this update, for obvious reasons. We particularly focused on giving some of them increased presence in the lane, mostly through better or more consistent sustain to help withstand Mage poke. Achilles Radiant Glory
  • Changed max targets on heal from 3/3/3/3/4 to 4 at all ranks
Combat Dodge
  • Decreased Cooldown from 14/13/12/11/10s to 12/11.5/11/10.5/10s
Bellona Scourge
  • Increased Heal on third hit of the Scourge basic attack from 16/20/24/28/32 to 20/24/28/32/36
Eagle’s Rally
  • Increased damage from 140/230/320/410/500 to 150/250/350/450/550
Tyr Tyr is a Warrior that doesn’t need a lot of help to improve his laning phase, as he is already quite strong there. Fearless
  • Increased Physical Power Scaling on Assault Stance from 50% to 55%
  • Decreased Cooldown on both stances from 15s to 15/14.5/14/13.5/13s
Mulan Mulan’s identity is that of a lane bully, but she actually doesn’t get to bully much until she has gotten the extra ranks on Cross Strike and Spear Thrust. We think she’s likely able to compete if she has access to those earlier. Training Arc
  • Decreased requirement for second rank of Sword and Spear from 2000 to 1500 damage
  • Decreased requirement for third rank of Sword and Spear from 5000 to 4500 damage
Gilgamesh We always have to be careful not to send Gilgamesh to the top of the Jungle meta in pro play, so we are only giving him extra damage to Lane Minions. His lack of sustain is a major reason why he has struggled to be a Solo lane force, and only having the HP5 while your Sun-Forged Scimitar buff was active proved to not be enough to let him lane effectively. We are changing that HP5 to be constant, with the value based on the rank of Sun-Forged Scimitar. The value is being reduced from its previous numbers, but having it all the time should be a noticeable buff. Sun-Forged Scimitar
  • Increased damage to lane minions from 25% to 40%
  • Reduced HP5 from 20/25/30/35/40 to 10/15/20/25/30
  • Changed HP5 to be active at all times
Loki Our resident trickster hasn’t been performing well lately. We know how frustrating going up against Loki can be, so he is only receiving a small buff. Vanish
  • Increased base damage from 30/45/60/75/90 to 35/50/65/80/95
Ravana Ravana had a dominant stretch in the meta early in Year 10, but it was as a result of stacking Damage Mitigation. He just wasn’t hitting hard enough to warrant buying full damage, so we are giving him more scaling. Keep those hands up, he’s looking to fix some faces. Prana Onslaught
  • Increased Scaling from 90% to 95% of your Physical Power
Mystic Rush
  • Increased Scaling from 100% to 110% of your Physical Power
Sylvanus Changing a CC to no longer be reduced by Diminishing Returns is something we still want to use very sparingly, but Nature’s Grasp was a good candidate for it. Since Roots were changed to interact more consistently with Diminishing Returns, Sylvanus has struggled. Enemies hit by Nature’s Grasp are often able to move significantly before Sylvanus can, since their Stun duration happens while they are being pulled. With this change, that should happen less often. Nature’s Grasp
  • Stun now no longer is reduced by Diminishing Returns
Geb Shock Wave
  • Increased Damage at max range of this ability from 70% of initial damage to 80%
Stone Shield
  • Decreased Cooldown from 18s to 17s
Apollo Apollo was nerfed quickly after some significant community concern surrounding his spicy buffs. We are partially reverting the Mana Cost nerfs that we think have kept him from seeing play at higher levels now that we have seen that the rest of his buffs weren’t enough to push him into the meta. So Beautiful
  • Increased Physical Power Scaling from 85% to 90%
Across The Sky
  • Decreased Mana Cost from 40 mana + 40/45/50/55/60 mana per second to 20 mana + 35/40/45/50/55 mana per second
Medusa Medusa is almost in a great spot after her recent buffs, but just needs a little bit more help. Her mana costs are quite high, and even though she uses Transcendence well we would like to give her the option to get other items as well. Viper Shot
  • Increased Base Damage per shot from 15/20/25/30/35 to 20/25/30/35/40
  • Decreased Mana Cost from 50/55/60/65/70 to 50
Acid Spray
  • Decreased Mana Cost from 60/65/70/75/80 to 40/45/50/55/60
Chronos Although Mage ADCs have seen plenty of SPL play in recent months, Chronos has been noticeably absent. While increasing his Base Attack Speed may seem like a small buff, it means that any Attack Speed he receives will be more effective, including that which he gets from Accelerate. General
  • Increased Base Attack Speed from 1 to 1.05
Accelerate
  • Decreased Cooldown from 15s to 14s
Zeus Despite Zeus being a premiere damage Mage, his ultimate doesn’t do much to help with that identity. We felt that Lightning Storm needed a bit more BOOM in the later stages of the game. Lightning Storm
  • Increased Base Damage from 100/130/160/190/220 to 100/145/190/235/280
New Skin Voice Actors

  • Wacky Slappy Heimdallr: Mark Rogers
  • Zentraya Mulan: Zentreya
  • Cybernetic Overlord Hades: Kim Strauss
  • SWC Star Awilix: Brynn Apprill
