Hunt: Showdown

Update 2.5 & Web of the Empress Now Live!

Posted by CRY_IM on

Hunters,

Update 2.5 and the new Live Event, Web of the Empress, are here!

Face the terrifying Bileweavers, Corrupted creatures swarming the bayou with their nests in the brand-new 17th Compound. To aid your hunt, harness the power of Tarot Cards, a new Consumable that grants unique effects to twist the tide of battle.

Alongside the Event, Update 2.5 delivers numerous changes and a host of fixes to sharpen your hunt.

Step inside the Web of the Empress...if you dare!

Web of the Empress

Bileweavers

The Corruption has birthed new monsters: The Bileweavers, spider-like beings who hatch from eggs with venom ready in their fangs. While an individual Bileweaver is weak, they like to swarm together to overwhelm intruders. They're bent on defending their territory—not just their own massive nests, but also the small web-covered areas throughout the Incursion zones.

  • The Bileweaver is a new spider-like monster.
  • Individually, the Bileweaver is very weak, but they attack in groups, acting like a swarm.
  • Bileweavers are area defenders and can be found in the Bileweaver Nest and in small groups in other little web-covered locations.

Bileweaver Nest

  • The Bileweavers have created massive, web-covered nests. Hunters brave enough to enter and skilled enough to leave alive will find treasure hidden within.
  • Bileweaver nests contain:
    • Exclusive Scarce Weapons
    • 3 Tarot Cards
    • Destiny’s Dial: A machine that gives randomized rewards (Traits, buffs, and more)
    • Scarce and Burn Traits
    • Restoration Kit
    • Ammo Resupply Box
    • 4-Shot Boon, XP and Dark Sight Boost envelopes
    • A lootable hunter's corpse.

Tarot Cards

  • Get ready to experience the tools of The Witch, the journey of The Fool, and the power of The Empress. This update, we've introduced 12 Tarot Cards: single-use Consumables, each with a unique ability based on their traditional meaning. Use a card to gain its power...and sometimes, pay its price. It may be enough to tip the scales of fate.
  • The unique effect of each card is below:
    • The World: Reveals all Boss Targets.
    • The Moon: Grants 2 seconds of Dark Sight Boost
    • The Garden: Fully heals and removes Bleeding, Burning, and Poison for you and your teammates.
    • The Fool: Copies the last Tarot Card you used this Mission.
    • The Tower: Kills Monsters and damages Targets within a 65m radius. Your Hunter catches on fire.
    • The Magician: Places a Dark Sight Decoy at your location causes Heavy Bleeding on use.

Dev Note: The Dark Sight Decoy looks like an enemy Hunter to other players observing it with Dark Sight Boost. The Decoy also triggers Instinct on enemy Hunters. The Decoy has a distinct audio effect and can be dispelled by interacting with it physically. Decoys dropped by you or your own team do not show up in Dark Sight Boost or trigger Instinct for you or your team.

    • The Devil: Reduces the sway and spread (excluding shotguns) for weapons until your Hunter is downed, then destroys an additional Health Chunk.
    • The Sun: Grants an increased Regeneration buff for 60 seconds.
    • Judgement: Doubles time of all current buffs. Reduces your Hunter’s HP to 1.
    • The Hanged Man: Allows you to spectate the nearest enemy Hunter for a limited time. The spectated Hunter hears a warning afterwards.
    • The Empress: Grants the Catalyst Trait, the Necromancer Trait, and one random Burn or Scarce Trait.

Dev Note: Traits are added in the order mentioned above and cannot exceed the Hunter’s maximum number of Traits. The Catalyst Trait can only be obtained via the Tarot Card “The Empress” or as a random reward from Destiny’s Dial.

    • The Chariot: Swaps Locked and Unlocked Extraction Points for all teams (only in Bounty Hunt). Destroys 1 Health Chunk. This ability has a five-minute global cooldown and can’t be used during the last five minutes of the Mission.
  • Dev Note: Since there are quite a few new effects and abilities to learn, we have added a small quality of life feature for the Tarot Cards, where if you inspect them when equipped, a small hint pop-up will appear on the top right of the screen detailing the equipped Tarot Card’s effect. This feature can also be turned off via a setting in the menu.
[/i]
  • Tarot Cards can be acquired by:
    • Finding them in the world: 3 Tarot Cards are available in each Bileweaver Nest, and some have a chance to spawn at web-covered locations around the map.
    • Collecting Dark Tribute rewards: 2 Tarot Cards are earned at the first Dark Tribute stage, with 1 Tarot Card earned at each subsequent stage.
    • Looting them from dead Hunters: Any Tarot Cards carried by dead Hunters can be stolen when looting, so long as you have a free Consumable slot for them.
  • [/list]

Locked Extraction Points & Central Extraction Points

    • With Web of the Empress, we’re introducing an additional Extraction Point to the center of the map. This Extract Point is always locked by default, and must be unlocked with the Tarot Card “The Chariot” to become accessible. These Extracts can be convenient and allow for speedy getaways, but are in exposed locations. One other random Extraction Point is locked at game start.
    • The Tarot Card “The Chariot” swaps which Extraction Points are locked and unlocked. When used by a player, there will be a global cooldown on the card for five minutes. Players can still consume the card to make space in their inventory, but no extracts can be swapped while this cooldown is active. Players will receive a small status effect icon with a timer to denote the cooldown.

    Localization

    • Added localized language support for two more languages:
      • Korean
      • Traditional Chinese
    • We are excited to welcome new Hunters on board in their languages!

    Gunplay

    New Scarce Weapons

    • Added two new weapons only available in-Mission: the Winfield Wildland and the Caldwell Homestead 78. These weapons cannot be purchased for Hunt Dollars and may only be found in the Bileweaver Nests in Bounty Hunt.
      • Homestead 78: a long-barrelled cousin of the Rival 78, this shotgun packs extra punch at medium range. Comparable to a double-barrel Romero 77.
      • Wildland: this modified Centennial is a specialized hunting rifle that does increased damage, with a longer barrel and improved magazine capacity. In addition, it sports a swift reload mechanism.
    • Each Scarce Weapon belongs to separate weapon families than the base Rival and Centennial.

    Auto Select Settings

    • Added new options for choosing how a Hunter selects equipment that they pick up.
      • Weapons: when enabled, picked up Weapons will automatically be selected.
      • Tools: when enabled, picked up Tools will automatically be selected. Also applies to thrown melee Tools and traps.
      • Consumables: when enabled, picked up Consumables will automatically be selected.
      • Equipment gained from looting Tool Boxes, Hunters, Beetles, etc. will not be affected by these settings and will never be auto-selected.

By default, all of these new settings are turned on. However, they can be adjusted based on preference, meaning the previous selected behaviors from before these changes are still possible if you are not comfortable with the changes.

    Melee Adjustments

    • Melee-focused weapons, Tools, and variants with melee attachments have had their maximum reach slightly increased.
    • The hit detection method has also been improved, meaning that horizontal melee attacks will now hit more consistently.
      • Previously, the detection method was akin to a thin line which followed the animation in order to detect a hit. This has now been improved to include some ‘thickness,’ meaning the detection better matches the weapon’s size.

These changes focus on melee attacks swipes, and for the most part does not affect stabs, buttstock hits or pistol whips etc.

    Affected Weapons

    • All melee Tools (includes Throwing Knives, etc.)
    • All dedicated melee weapons
    • Certain variants with melee attachments (Riposte, Claw, etc.)

    Ammo Scarcity

    • The following ammo types are now considered Scarce and are unavailable for purchase:
      • Frag Arrows
      • Crossbow Explosive Bolts
    • The following ammo types are still scarce:
      • Maynard Sniper Dumdum
      • Dolch 96 FMJ & Dumdum
      • Centennial Dumdum
      • Officer Dumdum

    General

    • Mako balance adjustments:
      • Reduced the Mako’s vertical recoil
      • Adjusted the Mako’s shot animations and weapon switch speed to be more in line with other Long Ammo rifles
    • Vetterli Cyclone balance adjustments:
      • Reduced Muzzle Velocity by 10%
      • Slightly increased reload time again
        • With the changes to body damage multipliers, we revisited this change as it seems necessary to slow the reload down again.
    • Throwing in-world weapons has been rebalanced, making it feel more consistent and meaningful:
      • All in-world weapons consistently kill Hunters who are hit
      • Sledgehammers and Wood Axes will kill Armoreds and Immolators in one hit
      • Pitchforks will kill Armoreds in one throw, while needing two hits for Immolators
      • Shovels will kill Armoreds and Immolators in two hits

    Gameplay

    General

    • In-world weapons can now be thrown by default, no longer requiring the Assailant Trait
    • Throwing Tools that can be picked up will now be highlighted in Dark Sight by default
    • Weapons found in Weapon Boxes, Hunting Towers, Workbenches, and Saddle Bags now have a chance to spawn with pre-equipped Custom Ammo
    • In-world Tool Boxes now have a small chance to give:
      • Regeneration Shots (Weak)
      • Antidote, Regeneration, Stamina, Vitality, and Recovery Shots
      • Poison Bombs
      • Concertina Bombs
      • Dark Dynamite Satchels
    • Lanterns that can be picked up can now be ignited when damaged by fire.
      • Other damage that would ignite the turned off wall-mounted Lanterns also ignites Lanterns that can be picked up
      • Note: This does not apply to Lanterns that are being carried.
    • In-World beetle cocoons will only grant a choke beetle
      • Note: Stalker beetle and fire beetle are no longer obtainable from in-world beetle cocoons.
    • Beetles no longer spawn at walls.
      • Developer Note: We are experimenting with this based on player feedback, but might revert this change in the next update again based on reception. It is important that players can always reliably find Choke Beetles, which work great for scouting and extinguishing downed team-mates, but if players want to use Beetles with offensive capabilities, we expect them to bring those into the mission.

    New World Item

    Powder Keg

    • New deployable found only in-Mission
    • Can be picked up and deployed on the ground
    • Acts like a smaller red barrel: damage will start a fuse, detonating it after a few seconds. Fire-based damage will instantly detonate Powder Kegs.

    Traits

    Blade Seer

    • Extends the range throwable projectiles can be seen to 75m

    Witness

    • Removed healing from proximity to corpses
    • Reduced Upgrade Point cost from 5 to 4

    Meta

    General

    Bounty Clash

    • Added Tarot Cards to Bounty Clash’s Event item spawns
    • Added Moses Poultry to the Bounty Clash compound pool

    Basic Tutorial

    • Made several updates to improve the flow and shorten the overall duration
    • Added Chinese audio localization

    Audio

    Highlights

    3D Audio

    • Slightly increased the volume of all 3D audio when using a 3rd party 3D audio solution such as Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic, DTS or Tempest.
Dev Note: We noticed that audio readability was slightly less reliable when using 3rd party 3D audio solutions. After extensive measurements and testing, we found that all 3D sounds were a bit too quiet when compared to CrySptatial—we made some minor adjustments to compensate for this to unify the mix of the game for all 3D audio solutions.

Note that this change does not affect the sound of the game when using CrySpatial or when 3D audio is disabled. A reminder that Hunt: Showdown 1896 is mainly mixed for use with CrySpatial—we recommend turning it on with no other enhancements or 3D audio solutions enabled.

    Hunter Footsteps

    • Made the volume of Hunter footstep sounds across all surface types slightly more consistent

Dev Note: We noticed that some of you struggle to accurately judge distances using audio. After an extensive investigation, we found that the volume of Hunter footsteps can vary quite a bit depending on the surface type a Hunter is walking on. We have improved the consistency of footstep volume across similar surface types.

This means that footsteps on metal roofs are still a lot louder than footsteps on other surface types. However, footsteps on coal, for example, will now be more consistent with footsteps on gravel. Running on wood will still be louder than running on fabric, but running on hollow wood is now closer in volume to running on solid wood. Most notably we increased the volume of sneak footsteps on some outlying surface types such as gravel and leaves. You will still be able to ambush other players, but you also get a fair chance to notice them when they ambush you—keep those ears open.

The change is pretty subtle and may be difficult to notice consciously, but we feel it has improved intuitive distance readability quite a bit. You would be surprised by the subtleties your ears will pick up!

    General Updates

    • Added a specific sweetener sound when firing a shotgun with Slug ammunition
    • Enhanced the gunshot sound of the New Army to feel a bit more powerful and satisfying
    • Hunter footsteps and Fusees are now better audible while other loud sounds are playing

    UI

    Lobby + Home Screen Rework:

Dev Note: We’ve streamlined the Lobby experience and removed the old home screen—the Lobby is now your new home base.

    • All game modes are accessible from a single Lobby screen.
    • Switch between modes (Shooting Range, Bounty Clash, Bounty Hunt) using arrows or by selecting the game mode tile.
    • No need to reform parties when changing modes (for invited squads only).
    • Parties with random players cannot change game modes, since randoms queue for a specific mode.
    • Progression screens are now under a new Career tab in the main navigation.
    • Last Mission Stats and Team Details are viewable directly in the Lobby.
    • The Newsfeed has been relocated to the top-right corner.

    Matchmaking for a 3rd Player:

Dev Note: In a long-requested feature, duos can now search for a random third teammate in trios.

    • In a duo party, set “Your Team” to Trios.
    • The matchmaking button will change to Find Teammate.
    • Solo players will now be matched with other solos or with a duo.

    Gear Screen Improvements:

Dev Note: We’ve made equipping and managing loadouts smoother.
    • Traits are now embedded in the Gear screen—see your full loadout while selecting Traits.
    • Added shortcut to Clear All Traits (with confirmation pop-up).
    • Double-click always equips weapons (no longer opens Item Details).
    • Exiting weapon comparisons now only requires one Esc press.

    Removal of Rarity System:

Dev Note: Based on your feedback, we’ve simplified cosmetic tiers.
    • All cosmetics are now either Legendary or Mythic.
    • Mythic items (orange background) are Event exclusives, with tags showing the Event they came from.
    • Common/Uncommon/Rare tags have been removed.
    • Sorting by rarity has been removed from filters.

    Bundle UX Overhaul:

Dev Note: Bundle purchases are clearer and more transparent.
    • Individual cosmetics in a bundle are now clearly marked.
    • On purchase, you can choose to buy a single item or the full bundle.
    • The bundle preview shows all included items.
    • Only the bundle price is displayed to avoid confusion with individual pricing.

    Updated Button Textures:

Dev Note: We’ve refreshed the UI to better match the game’s art style.
    • Most UI components, buttons, and backgrounds have a new look.
    • Recruitment buttons on the Active Roster screen now have unique artwork.

    Battle Pass Screen Improvements

Dev Note: You no longer need to hunt down unlocked rewards.
    • Cosmetics and Hunters unlocked in the Battle Pass can now be applied or recruited directly from the Battle Pass progression screen.

    NPCs

    Navmesh Regeneration

    • Navmesh regeneration has been improved to guarantee correct navmesh on Missions with location variations (e.g. Bileweaver Nests).

Improved Butcher and Scrapbeak Boss Target Reachability

    • The Butcher and Scrapbeak can now reach and attack Hunters in most places where they were unexpectedly unreachable before.
    • Melee attacks have animation variations that are used on some of the new reached locations, depending on the attacker and target’s relative positions and surroundings. Attack damage remains the same.

    Hunter Bots

    • Bots shoot more at monsters, giving away their position to players.
    • Bots are more effective at dealing with monsters, specifically Armored, Concertina Armored, and Water Devils.
    • Increased bot firing rates during player encounters. Despite shooting more often, their low accuracy keeps overall lethality unchanged.
    • Improved the bots’ behavior when in close range to use melee attacks more often.

    Monsters Damage Handling

    • Reduced head multiplier damage for Armored and Concertina Armored NPCs

    Brute

    • Added an idle behavior to Brute where it sometimes stops, bothered by some swarms insects while wandering around.

    Meathead and Brute

    • The trait pool for drops from Meathead and Brute has been rebalanced. All traits have the same weight now, except for Scarce and Burn traits.

    Grunt

Grunts have received a full rework that improves their stability and scalability. Some of the most noticeable improvements are:
    • Better spawning: Popping Grunts are less likely to happen, and strange animation transitions on spawning have been fixed.
    • Grunts move towards Hunters when they are shot and the hit impact is heard, despite shot origin sound taking priority if heard.
    • Grunts move slower in water.
    • Distractors (e.g. bell) now don’t fully take all attention; Grunts prioritize Hunters if they are in sight.
    • Grunt pathfinding has been refined to improve navigation. In certain scenarios, this makes Grunts take more direct routes toward players, reducing swarming behavior.

    Audio

    • Fixed an issue where Rotjaw Traces could sound too loud and artificial
    • Added missing audio to the poison spit attack of the “Spider” Boss Target
    • Fixed an issue where the impact of a thrown Wood Axe would not play the correct CLANK impact sound
